You will receive power!

In Acts chapter one, verse eight, Jesus tells us that we will receive power. He had already told the disciples to wait in the city of Jerusalem until they were empowered by the Holy Spirit. Empowered living is a promise of the Father. God himself promised that we would have power.

Acts 1:8 “but you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.”

Jesus tells them what they will receive!! Power!! This power is a dynamic, explosive strength to do what we cannot do on our own. It is also an authority in the spirit and in life to rise above and take our rightful position as the children of God. The early church walked in the supernatural ability of Christ. As you leaf through the pages of this great book you will notice the raw naked strength of God on display, working in and through the church. I am convinced He still wants to put his power on display in and through our lives.

We also see in the words of Jesus when we will receive this power. “After the Holy Ghost is come upon you.” One of the greatest needs in the church today is a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. We need to reach out toward heaven in faith and ask God to baptize us in His fire and presence. We have a lot going for us in the church. Great leaders, great buildings, wonderful literature, the best musicians, articulate and studied preachers, a body of membership that is supportive of the vision. There is something conspicuous because of His absence and that is the mighty presence of the Holy Ghost!! We need HIM!!!

Jesus then says why we need this baptism. Jesus said, “you will BE witnesses.” He didn’t say we would do witnessing, although I know we should share our faith. He said we would BE witnesses. God gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit so we can BE. He will empower us to be what we cannot be. The longing in your heart to be all God wants you to be coming from Him. It seems impossible to get there, but, through and by the power of the Holy Ghost, we can BE.
