In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus said “all power is given to me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And lo I am with you always even to the end of the world. Amen”
Jesus says without apology or reservations that he has been given all power!! We are talking this month about empowered living. God wants us to live lives above the swell and be the kind of people the world looks at with wonder and desire. In this verse Jesus is showing us that he truly has the power to do and be. It’s been given to him in heaven and in earth. I want you to note that Jesus said in earth. Our lives can be empowered not just in the sweet by and by. Although, I am looking forward to going to heaven someday, abundant living begins in the here and now.
This kind of life will have a great impact on the world. Look at what he says “Go and teach all nations.” How do we do this? Certainly we are to preach the Gospel and teach the word of God. However, I am convinced that the world will be taught by more than principle, precept and proclamation. It is our empowered living that will gain attention. Our lives will serve as a pattern of life and the power of what we say will be carried out in the lives that we live. We should and do witness. And preach. And teach. And go to church. And share our faith. And read the scripture. But our friends, family, co-workers and many others will be impacted on how we live. And from the experience of being around us they will be led to the precepts and experiences of salvation and baptism.
Empowered living will absolutely change the world and Jesus promised we are not alone in this. But he said he would be with us all the way. Every day he will guide us, strengthen us, empower us to do all he wants us to do and be all he wants us to be!!
Let’s live our best lives through and by the power he has given us. Through the person and power of the Holy Spirit!!
