Obviously you would not answer the door right after stepping out of the shower or tub. You would get dressed properly before going to the door. The devil visits every one of us from time to time and it is important that you are properly dressed when you face the enemy of your soul. Paul said in Ephesians 6 that we should be properly clothed in life and in this battle for our spirit man and soul.
Last week with dealt with clothing in truth and righteousness. Let’s begin this week by getting the right shoes!! Paul says we need to put on the shoes of the “Gospel of Peace”. The shoes of a Roman soldier were like the cleats of a football player. They gave him the ability to stand!!!! Nothing gives the ability to stand like the Word of God. It is like honey to our taste. It is like a Rock before the onslaughts of the enemy. Get it into your spirit today. Have a verse to carry you through you day.
He goes on to talk about the shield of faith. Most people don’t know that the Roman soldiers massive shield rested on a small clip attached to his belt when it was not in use. Though there is much more we can say about each of these parts of the armor, let us note one thing: Faith is attached to the Word of God (The Truth). Even though faith has many shades of meaning in the Scripture, let me say what it says in Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God.” Tie your faith to God’s word.
We need to put on the helmet of Salvation to protect our minds. When we think right we live right. When we think right we become right. As a man thinks so is he!!! The real battle is in the mind. Allow your mind to be protected and be careful what you allow in your thoughts. The Bible says to take every thought captive.
Then of course we need the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” Have you ever had the Lord whisper in your ear a truth that set you free for the day? This is what the “sword” refers to. Learn to hear the Voice of God. It will act as a sword to cut through all the devils attacks.
Get dressed!! God bless each of you!
